Lawless Lovelies!?

The Laverre Lovelies made a big splash in the sixth season of the Citrus League that recently wrapped up, garnering a lot of fans and awareness for the Fairy type. Yet, their reputation may be going downhill after they made a desperate, and illegal, maneuver in the playoffs hoping to progress. After fielding two Legend-tier players in one match, the Lovelies have been suspended from the Citrus League for the next season, and possibly even longer!

For those who didn't catch the dramatic playoffs matches between the Spikemuth Steely Hooligans and Laverre Lovelies last month, you may be confused as to why the Lovelies are bowing out of the upcoming 7th season of the Citrus League. With a solid performance in the season, a unique and identifiable theme and aesthetic, and plenty of fans for their activism, the Lovelies stood to be an all-time classic team in Citrus League history. That is, until they unfortunately broke the rules of the competition.

Since the fourth season of the Citrus League, there has been a rule in place that limits the amount of Legend-tier players a team can field in a match to one per, in the interest of fairness and match variety. And, barring one instance of a near-miss by the Anville Roundhouse Knights in late July 2024, the Legend Limit Rule has been cleanly abided by by the teams of the Citrus League. The Lovelies now hold the dubious honour of being the first team to break this rule in an official match, fielding both Legend-tier players Diane C. and Ozychlyrus in their third playoff bout.

We managed to chase down the Lovelies GM for a comment on this, and she had this to say:
"It really just didn't cross our minds, genuinely. The fact that Diane fills the Legend-tier while also being a Mega-evolved player is a weird corner-case that never came up until now. I mean, she wasn't either of those when the season started! When we put them on the team together, the logic was 'Diane is the Mega, and Ozychlyrus is the Legend', completely forgot Diane is a Legend too. But, intentional or not, fact is we broke the rules, and on the biggest night of the season too. Something like that just isn't gonna disappear, and we have to pay the price for it."

And pay the price they will, as the Lovelies have been disqualified from participating in the next season of the Citrus League, as well as the Yuzu cup, and will have to re-apply against other contenders if they choose to return come a prospective season eight. In the meantime, they are free to compete in local tournaments, so if you're still a die-hard Lovelies fan, keep an eye on the Kalos charts!
