backstory

• Barry Mathews was originally a budding archaeologist in Lordaeron, looking for his big break. One fateful day he found his way to the Whispering Forest and found the tomb where Zakajz the Corruptor was sealed away. His whispers of the void snuck into Barry's brain, and a dangerous obsession took root. Barry immersed himself in studying the void and searching for more Old God influenced locations, driving himself to madness. Once he was sufficiently deep into his mania, he was recruited by the Infinite Dragonflight and sent to the future as a sleeper agent.
• Eventually Barry is found out, captured by Bronze drakes, and returned to his original time with his mind wiped clean. He was sent back to Lordaeron, and had a relatively normal life as a nobody, picking up a hobby of Hearthstone card collecting, with his prized possession being a golden Mal'Ganis card.
• Barry falls to the plague of undeath in Lordaeron, and is raised as a Forsaken. The process ended up removing what little identity was still left, their entire episodic memory being lost and only instinct remaining. They were put through the newly-raised bootcamp and sent off to Undercity to join Forsaken society. When asked who they used to be, the only thing they had left of their former life was a shiny hearthstone card, so they took the name Goldmalganis.
