Dianne follows the winding pathways through the South Shroud and down into Gelmorra, as has become habit since she started working for Theodule Molisouix a few weeks ago. Approaching the gate expecting to be let in like the last handful of times, she instead bumps into the still-closed door, eyes glaring at her from a small gap in the carpentry.
"State your name, outsider."
"It's me, Dianne. I've been coming here regularly the last few weeks."
"Have a surname?"
"Lundevidenoir. I work for Dr. Molisouix."
"You don't look like her."
Dianne pinches the bridge of her nose, thinking of how to explain Fantasia to an old man who's never seen sunlight.
"Well, I am her, I've just... gone through a few changes. But I have the papers to let me in, here." She passes her work contract through the gap in the door.
"You could've easily stolen this from her. I'm not convinced."
Dianne sighs. "My outfit's the same. Got the same hat still. Been told it's very recognizable."
"Could've stole the clothes, too."
"Wha- if I stole the clothes from her- I mean me- they'd be way too small to fit!"
"Could've used a spell to re-size 'em."
"But I... well, I guess I did use a spell to re-size them... But that's just because I suddenly changed and had to make them fit me again!"
The gentleman on the other side of the door 'tsk's at her, shaking his head.
"Look, it's hard to explain, but you gotta believe me that I'm the same person. Let's see, uh... I can tell you about my parents!"
"Aye, so could anyone else in Gévaudan. Word travels quick around here."
"...Right. Uh... hmm... "
"Miss, I'm going to have to ask you to leave."
"W-wait, hang on! I just need to think..."
"If you continue with this farce you'll have plenty of time to think in a gaol."
"Nononono hang on! Uhh, what was it Theodule said to do if I run into trouble... ah! C-can you send a runner to the Molisouix house, please? They'll sort this out!"
The man on the other side of the door narrows his eyes, but relents. "Aye, fine. But stay right there, don't try anything funny." He leaves the door for a moment, calling for a coworker who's sent off to the Molisouix house. Dianne nervously waits in silence for Theodule to come by the gate and confirm her identity. After a half bell of waiting, a representative of the Molisouix family arrives and glances through the door at Dianne.
"I have no clue who that woman is." Circelle says, dryly.
Pulling herself up from the floor, Dianne slowly explains the situation to Theodule's mother, and after another half bell of going through a frankly far-too-in-depth questionnaire from her, finally is allowed through the gate into Gévaudan.
